Aim. Is to provide ACF Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVS) with leadership and management training to enable them to fulfil the role of Detachment Commander.
Qualification. Successful completion of the course qualifies students to run Detachments within the ACF. It also gives SIs eligibility for promotion to SSI or ACF 2Lts eligibility for promotion to Lt. Students will complete a Westminster workbook during the course which if successful will qualify them to Intermediate level.
Course Outline. The course is 5 days long and concentrates on the planning of cadet training and the required administrative paperwork to support a detachment training event, including managing detachment staff and cadets, developing progressive training and planning training programmes, planning and running detachment events and the duty of care of a Detachment Commander. Problem solving, interviewing and team building is also covered. There is a formal dinner night at the end of the course.
Eligibility. A mandatory course for new Detachment Commanders on appointment. Candidates must have attended the Adult Induction Course (AIC) or have been exempted due to previous Regular or Reserve service.
Pre-Requisites. The following pre-requisites apply:
a. Candidates must hold WESTMINSTER Basic qualification. This must also be recorded within Qualifications on Westminster (Students who are on Westminster indicating that they do not hold Basic at 2 weeks prior to their course start date will be subject to rejection off the course)
Recommendations. It is recommended that students have an understanding of the formatting of an Administrative Instruction and a formal letter in accordance with JSP 101.
Courses. In 2016/17 there will be 10 courses with places for 48 students on each course.
Application Procedure. Applications must be loaded onto WESTMINSTER by Counties. Closing dates on WESTMINSTER will be strictly adhered to (this is at least 8 weeks prior to the start of every course).
