Aim. To study the organisation, administration, management and training of the ACF at Area and County level, and to confirm the responsibilities of the Area Commander.
Qualification. The course qualifies ACF Captains for promotion to Major.
Course Outline. The course is 6 days long and concentrates on the responsibilities in all areas of managing a company. It also covers structure, culture and policies as well as implementation techniques in order to enable ACF officers to effectively carry out their responsibilities as an Area Commander. These subjects include but are not confined to: values and standards, communication, staff recruiting and selection, risk management, community engagement, finance, marketing and promotion, command tasks, planning exercise, discipline, safeguarding and a formal dinner night.
Eligibility. This course should be attended by officers holding the rank of Captain and who are likely to take over as an Area (or equivalent) Commander.
Pre-Requisites. The following pre-requisites apply:
- Candidates must have previously attended the mandatory courses (Adult Instructor Course pre 2012 / ALM Course 2012 onwards) at CTC unless exempted by the Commandant of CTC due to previous Regular or Reserve service.
Recommendations. It is recommended that students complete the pre-course reading attached to the joining instructions prior to attending the course.
Courses. In 2016/17 there will be 2 courses with places for 40 students on each course.
Application Procedure. Applications must be loaded onto WESTMINSTER by Counties. Closing dates on WESTMINSTER will be strictly adhered to (this is at least 8 weeks prior to the start of every course).
